Le guide du tokusatsu . Godzilla, X-or, Bioman, l'attaque des titans. Nous connaissons tous le tokusatsu sans même le savoir ! . Derrière ce terme se cachent toutes les productions audiovisuelles japonaises faisant usage d'effets spéciaux dits « traditionnels ». Avec parfois peu de moyens, mais toujours beaucoup d'inventivité, le tokusatsu a su construire sa propre esthétique qui ne saurait se limiter à l'étiquette « kitsch » qu'on s'empresse souvent de lui coller. Il nous permet d'ailleurs de comprendre l'évolution des techniques et artifices utilisés au cinéma et à la télévision depuis le début des années 1950 jusqu'à aujourd'hui. Plus encore, le tokusatsu a lui-même nourri les productions audiovisuelles occidentales en faisant toujours preuve d'audace et de créativité. Des artisans du tokusatsu comme Eiji Tsubaraya, Sonny Chiba ou Tohl Narita sont passés maîtres dans l'art de la réalisation, du suit acting et de la maquette sans jamais cesser d'expérimenter.. Rédigé par un expert passionné, et richement illustré, ce panorama non exhaustif permettra aux curieux d'explorer cet univers encore méconnu et aux connaisseurs d'aborder les oeuvres d'un oeil neuf tout en faisant de belles découvertes..
