Summary
Les archives inédites du physicien genevois Georges-Louis Le Sage, constituées de 35 000 cartes à jouer, sont un document exceptionnel sur la pensée savante telle qu'elle chemine. Boîte noire de la recherche en train de se faire, ce matériau étonnant, drôle et énigmatique, relève aussi d'une certaine forme d'autobiographie.. Contemporain de Rousseau, Le Sage est un anticonformiste. Refusant les codes du monde savant, il décide d'écrire absolument tout sur des cartes à jouer : eurêka et tâtonnements, amertume de ne pas être reconnu, rapports polémiques avec ses pairs ou poème pour Newton, mais aussi angoisse face à une mémoire qui flanche et à un corps vieillissant... Classer ses cartes, les empaqueter et les étiqueter est un travail quotidien, excitant et harassant.. Ce sera sa seule véritable oeuvre, et sans doute aussi la source de ses désillusions sur la science et ses méthodes.. Jean-François Bert s'empare avec tendresse de ces cartes et propose une plongée dans la vie singulière de ce savant avant-gardiste. Chacun y reconnaîtra le cheminement parfois complexe de ses pensées et le besoin de créer constamment de nouveaux échafaudages pour les ordonner..
