Summary
La rue revêt de multiples identités : voie de passage, lieu des interactions du quotidien, à la fois communautaire et marchande, c’est l’un des fondements de la ville. L’avenue du Parc montréalaise en témoigne remarquablement: porte d’entrée du parc du Mont-Royal, on a d’abord voulu la réserver aux classes privilégiées. Ensuite devenue le boulevard des rêves de plusieurs générations d’immigrants, elle acquiert un caractère particulièrement hétéroclite, en raison de l’enchevêtrement de ses multiples fonctions. En dépit de cela, l’avenue du Parc suscite pourtant un fort attachement: en témoignent les mobilisations provoquées par les tentatives de la renommer, sans équivalent dans l’histoire montréalaise. On a dit qu’elle avait «le charme du désordre», ou, selon les mots de Dinu Bumbaru d’Héritage Montréal : « C’est tout croche, mais il y a une âme très forte sur Parc. » C’est à la découverte de cette âme que cet ouvrage vous invite.
