Summary
Août 1871. Mme Davenport, une jeune aristocrate anglaise fraîchement arrivée à Québec, entreprend une randonnée à cheval jusqu'au Lac-Saint-Jean en compagnie de son mari, de deux cochers et d'un guide autochtone. Ce qui devait être un agréable voyage se transforme rapidement en quatorze jours de misère. Peu préparé pour cette aventure insensée, le groupe n'a aucune idée de ce qui l'attend sur le chemin à peine tracé. Mais le terrain accidenté, les marécages, les moustiques, la fatigue et la faim ne suffiront pas à venir à bout du courage et de la détermination de Mme Davenport. Ève Michèle Tremblay propose dans cet ouvrage la traduction du journal rédigé par la voyageuse au fil des découvertes et des imprévus. L'auteure y révèle également l'histoire méconnue des premières tentatives de construction d'un chemin entre Québec et le Lac-Saint-Jean à travers les redoutables montagnes de la réserve faunique des Laurentides. Diplômée de l'Université de Montréal en anthropologie et en archéologie ainsi que de l'Université du Québec à Chicoutimi en administration, Ève Michèle Tremblay a fait carrière en éducation, en communication et en gestion des ressources humaines. Dès l'enfance, elle a parcouru avec son père les forêts sauvages du nord du Lac-Saint-Jean pour y pratiquer la pêche et la chasse.
