Summary
L’auteur de ce livre, Vincent Di Candido, est originaire du Village de Corato, situé dans le Sud de l’Italie. Né en février?1944, il émigre en France dès l’âge de 13 ans avec toute sa famille, pour ensuite, lorsqu’il devint un jeune adulte, s’installer à Montréal où il occupera plusieurs fonctions importantes, syndicales politiques et sociales et où il fondera une famille.
Dans son cheminement de vie, l’écriture l’a toujours interpellé avec force et passion. C’est dans cet esprit qu’il a voulu raconter, sous la forme d’un journal intime les aléas de l’immigration.
Sous le pseudonyme du personnage d’Angelo Dante, il raconte ainsi les déboires et les obstacles, les joies et les peines, les échecs et les réussites de toute une vie à la recherche de son identité, dans un pays qui n’était pas le sien.
Il fait ainsi au passage un petit clin d’œil à l’écrivain-dramaturge et poète Dante, dont son imaginaire s’est inspiré en partie, et qui a vécu entre?1265 et?1321, publiant de nombreux ouvrages traitant de la religion et de la philosophie de l’Homme qui servent encore aujourd’hui de références dans des cours à l’école italienne, et dont le parcours fut étrangement similaire à celui de la Famille Di Candido (les Dante), ayant lui aussi traversé les Alpes et passant un temps à Sassenage et à Grenoble.
