Summary
New york ironweed was selected for the 2025 Ottoline Prize.
new york ironweed’s poems are plants made from and with language: strange, witchy little creatures, they err without error and decompose. These energetic, super sonic, hyper-conscious poems emerge from our shared context of climate and insect crisis, and pay care and attention to the plants that grow wildly from cracks in the concrete. Intentionally "imperfect," the poems invite typographical irregularities, reflecting ecological realities. These plants-as-poems build environment and architecture through their rank growth. new york ironweed offers us a catalog, or a field guide: an intimate companion who’s always pointing to miraculous, growing things—and saying “look!”—and the world feels more possible when we do.
