Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, situated in the northwest of China, is one of the five minority autonomous regions in China. Covering an area of 1.66 million square kilometres, it stands as the largest provincial administrative region in China, accounting for one sixth of China’s national territory. Xinjiang’s topography has its own uniqueness, the Altai Mountains in the north, the Kunlun Mountains in the south, and the Tian Shan stretching across the centre of Xinjiang, dividing it into two parts, the Tarim Basin in the south, and the Junggar Basin in the north, known as the Three Mountains and Two Basins. The snow and glaciers of the three mountains nurtured more than 500 rivers and ten lakes, gifting Xinjiang a unique desert landscape, vast grasslands, forests, more than 500 kinds of precious animal species, as well as abundant oil, gas and mineral resources. In addition, Xinjiang is one of the most popular destinations for tourists. The ancient Silk Road, the cultural hub between the East and the West, the exceptional scenery, cultural relics, the colorful ethnic customs, art, and cuisine are here to welcome people from all over the world. This book is a selection of nearly 200 works by several famous artists who have extensive experience in Xinjiang, unfolding a closer look of Kunlun Mountains, Tian Shan, Tarim Basin, Junggar Basin, Altay Mountains and Kanas, etc. Visual art language is resorted, hoping to present the world a real Xinjiang, beautiful, prosperous and peaceful.
