Summary
Jean Ouimet, unique ancêtre de tous les descendants qui portent ce nom, est arrivé en Nouvelle-France le 16 juin 1659 sur le navire Le Sacrifice d'Abraham. Parmi les passagers se trouvait également Mgr François Montmorency de Laval accompagné de missionnaires.
À dix-neuf ans, il était orphelin de ses deux parents et n'avait ni frères, ni soeurs. Il est venu seul au Canada par ses propres moyens après avoir subi plusieurs grandes déceptions. C'était l'époque du régime de Louis XIV, celui qu'on appelait communément le "Roi Soleil". Pour payer ses ambitions, il n'hésitait pas à exploiter son peuple.
En arrivant à Québec, Jean s'est tout de suite mis à l'oeuvre pour trouver de l'emploi et s'installer. Après un peu plus d'un an, il épouse la jeune Renée Gagnon, fille de marchand.
De Château Richer à l'Île D'Orléans, Jean s'installe confortablement avec sa famille. Simple paysan qui cultivait la terre et possédait des animaux, Jean réussit en vingt-huit ans à être parmi les gens les mieux nantis de sa communauté. Il avait sûrement la "bosse des affaires" malgré sa grande générosité envers ses voisins.
