Summary
Ce recueil réunit des lettres que Saint-Denys Garneau a écrites sur la nature, un sujet constant autant dans son œuvre littéraire que dans ses peintures.. En 1927, quand débute cette correspondance, Garneau a 15 ans. Il est étudiant au collège Sainte-Marie à Montréal. À cause de sa mauvaise santé, il doit interrompre plusieurs fois ses études et en 1933, durant sa première année de philosophie, il quitte définitivement le collège. Il se retire alors dans le manoir familial à Sainte-Catherine-de-Fossambault pour pratiquer un mode de vie marginal et désœuvré. C’est là qu’il développe une pensée tout à fait originale, l’une des premières occurrences de « Nature Writing » dans la littérature québécoise.. Ces lettres, d’une grande qualité littéraire, se lisent comme le roman d’une vie singulière, celle d’un poète de la nature..
