Summary
Poursuivi par le FBI et dans l'attente de sa condamnation pour obscénité et exhibitionnisme lors d'un concert à Miami, Jim Morrison quitte les Doors et l'Amérique pour s'installer à Paris le 12 mars 1971. Il y rejoint sa compagne, Pamela Courson, junkie, flanquée de son amant et dealer, le jeune comte Jean de Breteuil. En exil, Jim espère devenir poète sur les traces de la Lost Generation. Il fréquente Agnès Varda, qu'il a connue à Los Angeles, et se rend à de nombreuses reprises dans le club le plus couru d'Europe de cette époque, le Rock'n'roll Circus. Là, il fait la connaissance de Johnny Hallyday et de Richard Bohringer. Dans la nuit du 3 juillet, il décède d'un infarctus du myocarde - selon le rapport du médecin légiste qui ne répond pas aux nombreuses interrogations laissées en suspens. Ce récit reprend l'enquête, confronte les témoignages, explore le contexte des différents protagonistes de l'histoire, de la guerre menée par la CIA à la contre-culture et des relations troubles qu'entretenait Jean de Breteuil avec la French Connection. Le mystère de la disparition du Sex God des Doors s'épaissit en même temps qu'il s'éclaire....
