Islam et politique au XXe siècle . De Java au Maroc, l'art de faire politique a longtemps été en tension avec le religieux, et non en fusion. L'irruption de l'Europe dans les mondes musulmans, au XIXe siècle, a déclenché des modernisations défensives qui, mettant le religieux entre parenthèses, se sont aliéné les peuples. Après la suppression du califat ottoman par Mustapha Kemal en 1924, des expériences de démocratisation se sont déroulées de l'Égypte à l'Indonésie. Hormis dans la Turquie postkémaliste, elles ont été étouffées par l'installation de républiques césariennes et populistes. Et la recherche d'un équilibre entre croyants et citoyens a été suspendue. L'islam politique est monté en puissance au cours des années 1970-1980, mais il a échoué à prendre le pouvoir, sauf en Iran et au Soudan. Lui a succédé la vague du salafisme, qui oscillait entre l'imposition à la société d'un ordre moral Islamique et un régime de terreur, dont Daech a été le paroxysme. Mais, si la fin du XXe siècle a été marquée par le retour de Dieu, notre époque pourrait bien être celle de la résurgence des peuples, depuis les Printemps arabes de 2011.
