Summary
Le vicaire général Alexis Mailloux est né à l’île aux Coudres en 1801. Dans son Histoire de l’île aux Coudres, publiée en 1879, il évoque avec pittoresque des faits du passé du lieu : les tempêtes, le « fléau des chenilles », les tremblements de terre. Mais surtout, il nous offre une description en détails de la pêche aux marsouins que pratiquaient les insulaires, cette pêche disparue qu’a su faire revivre le cinéaste Pierre Perrault. L’histoire de l’île est suivi d’une longue flânerie à laquelle l’abbé nous invite, la Promenade autour de l’île aux Coudres. Cette fois, les beautés du lieu prennent le pas sur l’histoire des hommes – si tant est qu’on puisse les distinguer. L’abbé Mailloux nous mène « au pas de la Blanche » – le cheval – le long des grèves, caps, pointes et autres reliefs de l’île. Au rythme des anecdotes qui font le charme de toute bonne promenade, il fait parcourir ce pays de l’île aux Coudres, pays des marsouins, des pêcheurs et de la croix, pays de la Roche Pleureuse, de la Baleine et de la pointe Sèque avec son long nez, pays bercé par le fleuve et le temps.
