Une fable écologique, une histoire vraie, un best-seller . Au nord du Japon, la baie de Kesennuma est en crise.. Face à la marée rouge, l'ostréiculteur Hatakeyama Shigeatsu cherche à sauver un mode de vie et une baie où sa famille a vécu depuis des générations.. Lors d'un voyage en France, il comprend qu'un boisement riche en feuillus enrichit les eaux marines.. Ainsi naît le mouvement de reboisement « La forêt amante de la mer » - Mori wa Umi no Koibito. Ce mouvement populaire et citoyen donnera naissance à une ONG internationale qui établira un nouveau rapport des habitants à la baie de Kesennuma, et lui redonnera vie.. Dans un récit poétique plein de grâce, Hatakeyama raconte ce combat et cette victoire.. Une bible de l'écologie au Japon.. L'enfance tient une grande place dans ce livre : celle de Hatakeyama, dans la baie, mais aussi celle des enfants d'aujourd'hui, par toutes les actions pédagogiques qu'il mène.
