Summary
Combien d’îles compte le fleuve Saint- Laurent ? Elles font tellement partie du paysage qu’on le les voit plus ! Le géographe Hugues Morrissette les a dénombrées. Il arrive à un total de « 2713 îles, îlots et entités insulaires », bien conscient qu’il peut s’en ajouter ou en disparaître presque chaque jour. De ce nombre étonnant, Lorraine Guay en a retenu 476 qui sont soigneusement notées dans un index qui permet de les localiser sur l’une ou l’autre des multiples cartes de l’ouvrage. L’auteure nous conduit en douceur d’une île à l’autre et nous offre, comme le souligne Hugues Morrissette, «une mine de renseignements inédits sur cet univers insulaire peu connu dans son ensemble. La multiplicité et la belle diversité des îles du Saint-Laurent y sont remarquablement bien soulignées ».
