Summary
Ce magnifique modèle aux tons violets et or est une étoile brillante de l'histoire de la reliure. Fabriquée à l'origine en maroquin rouge, avec un filigrane complexe et des pointes d'or, cette reliure fait partie de la collection de la Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) depuis le Second Empire (1865-1870). Elle a été conçue par un atelier parisien inconnu pour contenir la section Pars Hiemalis (ou hiver) du Brevarium de Paris, un livre qui dictait les rites liturgiques de l'Église catholique tout au long de l'année ecclésiastique. Le contenu de la reliure a été imprimé en 1645 par S. et G. Cramoisy, l'un des premiers ateliers laïques autorisés à imprimer des ouvrages liturgiques pour l'Église catholique. Cependant, ce manuscrit et cette reliure ont probablement été produits pour un collectionneur de livres plutôt que d'avoir été utilisés en service. Avec un travail de filigrane aussi brillant, il est facile de comprendre pourquoi un bibliophile réputé de l'époque a commandé cette pièce, et pourquoi la BnF l'a si fièrement conservée dans sa collection au cours des deux derniers siècles.
