On this double disc covering the most of Alice Babs carrier her fantastic voice really shines.Disc 1 focus on songs in Swedish and disc 2 contains songs sung in English. Her big break came in 1940 with her film debut in Swing it, Magistern. One of many collaborators were Duke Ellingtons orchestra. The Duke had composed several works in a sacred style especially for Alice. Ellington stated that no one else has the ability to sing these parts, and the resulting success was exceptional. When the works were performed without Alice Babs, it took three different singers to cover the entire register. It came as no surprise when Babs was named singer to the royal court in 1972, the first singer who had not come from an operatic background. Her final retreat from the stage came in 1980.
