Summary
La forme de la sonata concertata est parfaitement illustrée par ces pièces en trio de Dietrich Buxtehude qui, selon Peter Wollny, constituent « un jalon dans l’histoire de la sonate ». Elles permettent de mieux connaître un compositeur dont la renommée était surtout associée à ses cantates et ses pièces d'orgue, ainsi qu'à l'admiration que lui vouait le jeune Johann Sebastian Bach, qui parcourut 400 kilomètres à pied pour suivre ses cours. Après un opus consacré au premier recueil de sonates chambristes de Buxtehude (ALPHA367), les musiciens d'Arcangelo (Sophie Gent, Jonathan Manson, Thomas Dunford et Jonathan Cohen) font revivre les pièces du second recueil, paru en 1696. On y perçoit les multiples influences européennes (baltiques, italiennes, allemandes, françaises) qui fleurissaient à Lübeck, cette ville du nord de l’Allemagne où Buxtehude officiait en tant qu’organiste de l’église Sainte-Marie ; mais aussi à Hambourg, où ce recueil fut typographié.
