The Beginner's Guide to Ireland traces the development of the country's traditional and folk music over three themed CDs. Starting in the 1960s, when The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem led a folk and ballad revival and Seán Ó Riada revitalized ensemble playing, the Guide will introduce you to key 1970s groups such as Planxty and The Bothy Band. CD2 covers the flourishing 1980s and 1990s, when boundaries were broken and international recognition achieved by such as De Dannan, the singer Dolores Keane and accordionist Sharon Shannon. CD3 looks at today's movers and shakers, those adopting new approaches to the tradition, and others who have resolutely stuck to their roots - together forming an impressive musical tapestry.
