This audiovisual document of the conductor in action provides us with a portrait of a man whose conducting technique contrasts fascinatingly with that of the other conductors in EuroArts “Rehearsal and Performance” series. Here, it’s Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser Overture with the Südfunk Sinfonieorchester that offers a fine illustration of his insistence on absolute precision, energetic style and close familiarity with the score.
