David & Goliath: King Saul (Orson Wells), ruler of the Israelites, is facing war with the Philistines over the possession of the Arch of Alliance. Saul has heard from his prophets of a new king, taking his place on the throne, in the form of a young shepherd boy named David. Meanwhile, David has come to meet the Israelite army to bring supplies to his brothers and discovers the presence of Goliath, a Philistine soldier over nine feet tall who has challenged any single man in the Israelite army to a battle to decide the winner of the war. When no one will take up Goliath's challenge, young David, armed with only a sling and some stones, sets off to battle the monstrous Goliath. The Stranger: In this legendary dark masterpiece, Orson Welles stars as Franz Kindler, a horrific Nazi war criminal who has painstakingly erased all evidence of his identity. Edward G. Robinson plays Wilson, a War Crimes Commission detective who is determined to track Kindler down. Only one man, Kindler's former ally Meinike, knows the true identity of the monster, so Wilson allows Meinike to leave in order to track him to Kindler. The trail leads to a small Connecticut town but Meinike is killed before Wilson can trace him to Kindler. The suspense build relentlessly as the chase reaches its nerve-wracking conclusion. The Lady From Shanghai: Orson Wells (Citizen Kane, 1941) wrote, directed and starred in this treacherous tale of a sailor (Wells) hired to help a beautiful woman (Rita Hayworth) and her disabled lawyer husband (Everett Sloane) sail their private yacht from New York to San Francisco via the Panama Canal. On board, he is bribed to "fake" the murder of the lawyer's partner (Glenn Anders), only to find himself trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Over time, critics have lavished praise on Welles's uncommon vision, which culminates with the most elaborately staged of all film noir finales-the famous shootout in the hall of mirrors. The Southern Star: The year is 1912. Kramer (Harry Andrews) has carved out a private empire for himself in West Africa, complete with a personal militia. But, as his daughter, Erica (Ursula Andress), and the American geologist Dan Rockland (George Segal) are celebrating their engagement, Kramer's fabulous diamond, The Southern Star, disappears. Dan's African helper, Matakit, suspected of the theft, flees into the jungle, pursued by Dan and Erica, who believe him to be innocent, and by Kramer's militia commander, who wants the diamond for himself. Based on a Jules Verne tale, this comedic adventure features excellent performances from its top-notch cast (including Orson Welles).
