We've taken four of the best known Doo Wop groups from the more vocal soul and gospel side of Doo Wop and dug out their long lost gems from the dusty R&B files. To name check the bands here, we present:- The Flamingos - formed in 1953, R&R Hall of Fame 2004, number 158 Rolling Stone Top 500 songs of all time with I Only Have Eyes For You. Main men Jacob Carey, Ezekiel Carey. The Five Satins - formed 1952 In The Still Of The Night a million seller 1956. Main man Fred Parris, wrote many of their hits and was in and out of the band all his musical life. The Spaniels - formed in 1952 as Pookie & The Hudsonaires. Main man Thornton Pookie Hudson, wrote many of their hits including Goodnite Sweetheart. The Spaniels thought to be the first of the vocal bands to use a separate mic for the lead singer and the backing vocalists. Career got a big boost after the movies American Graffiti and Three Men And A Baby! The 5 Royales - formed in the early fifties and thought to be an important link between R&B, Gospel Soul and R&Roll. Main man Lowman Pauling who again wrote many of their hits and others. R&Roll Hall Of Fame 2015.
