EN SAVOIR PLUS Résumé

*** Résumé en anglais seulement ***

ALBARE is the nom de guerre of Albert Dadon, a virtuoso jazz guitarist with a strong melodic sense and a wealth of global influences. Born in Morocco and raised in Israel and France, Albare first worked as a musician in France, before emigrating to Australia at the age of 27. He is not only well known as a jazz musician but has maintained a highly successful career as one of Australia’s most prominent musician entrepreneurs. He currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. Endorsed by Gibson Guitars for over 20 years, Albare’s recording career began with a string of ‘acid jazz’ albums for Festival Records in the early 90s. Albare’s recording and performing has always worked in parallel with his work to promote Australian Jazz. As the Director of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival he presented great artists such as such as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter and Gary Burton to name but a few. Albare is also the founder of the Australian Jazz ‘Bell’Awards (the Grammy equivalent for Jazz in Australia). His sixth album was recorded in 2012. Long Way (ENJ-9592) was the first album produced for the prestigious German jazz label ENJA RECORDS. Recorded in New York, the album features triple Grammy winner drummer Antonio Sanchez, saxophonist George Garzone, pianist Leo Genovese (Esperanza Spalding), prolific harmonica player Hendrik Meurkens and Albare’s long time musical collaborator, bassist Evripedes Evripidou. Long Way maintained its place on the US National Jazz Week Chart for over eighteen weeks! In early 2013 Albare went back to NY to record The Road Ahead (ENJ-9598) with a new line up. This ensemble has proved to be a great setting for Albare’s melodic playing while continuing the international cosmopolitan theme. Italian / Australian based pianist Phil Turcio, Cuban bassist Yunior Terry and Venezuelan drummer Pablo Bencid. They combine the fresh excitement of Long Way with a more sophisticated and interactive feeling within the band. This second recording for ENJA RECORDS remained in the US National Week Charts for 12 weeks.Albare believes that you can create high standard popular music and mix the genres: world, latin, funk and folkloric music with jazz. He does this with a high level of creativity that communicates to his audience. In fact his music is not only fun, it is interesting and inspiring. This perspective is clearly demonstrated in the 2014 release ‘Two Decades of Jazz’, a new double album of highlights from Albare’s entire career. The new collection is actually a personal selection by Albare, blending what he considers his most important musical moments to date, into his more than 20-year journey into recording jazz. The whole package is mastered by world renowned engineer Leon Zervos, who also breathes new life into the selection.
